Koinonia Foster Homes (Part 2)

Today was the day that we received our initial home inspection, one of the beginning steps to becoming a foster parent. Koinonia Foster Services has just been amazing to work with. The Foster Parent Coordinator that we have been working with, Honey, is just wonderful. She is all about finding the perfect match of children with foster parents. So, today our home inspection went well. We just have a few things to add to our home (ex. smoke detectors in each bedroom, lock boxes in the medicine cabinets and the refrigerator), So far the steps are moving right along. Now I just have to get in touch with Tyler's social worker. I have left some messages but she has not returned my call yet. So, please do pray for Taylor and I as we try to embark on this journey with our little friend, Tyler. Our hope is to soon make him part of our family. Thank you all for your support in this process. Many blessings to you!

Koinonia Foster Homes (Part 1)

Today we went to a Foster Family training session through Koinonia Foster Homes. We felt that their faith-based approach to foster care was truly refreshing. If anyone is looking in to fostering a child, we would recommend inquiring with them. We have felt that the staff at Koinonia have been putting our needs as potential foster parents first and have been more than willing to help us through the process. If you're wondering, as mentioned before, we would love to bring Tyler in to our home and that is the reason why we are going through the training. Please do pray with us as we embark on this journey.

My Boys

Many of you already know that I work at a residential facility for children that were taken out of their homes due to abuse of some form. There are about 80 children or so in the whole facility but I work with 12 boys directly. The boys in my unit range from the age of 6 to 12 but most of them are 10 and under. Here you see two of my favorite residents. On the left is Christian. He is 9 years old. He can be the most adorable kid but at the same time he can have the most foul mouth that you have ever heard. So, we are really working on getting him to stop cursing and stop whining so much. On the right is my boy Tyler. His paperwork says he's 8 years old but he truly believes that he is 9. He is one child that I always look forward to seeing whenever I come to work. Him and I pray together and read his Bible at night before he goes to bed. Many times he has prayed that I would be his mom. And it tears me apart every time he prays that because I would love to take him home but can not do so while still working there. But if it was possible I would take this child home with me. He has a very caring heart and is always concerned about other people. If you remember these children when you are spending time with God, please do remember to lift them up in your prayers as they always need it.
