Soccer Mom

Yup! I'm officially a soccer mom! I never really thought that would be me but I am! This past week we signed Tyler up for Upward Soccer at Immanuel Baptist Church. For those of you that don't know what Upward Soccer is, it is basically a youth soccer league with it's focus on Christ. I really think it is a great program. They do it for basketball, soccer, and cheerleading for boys & girls from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I love it. I actually helped coach the first season of Upward that they ever had at Immanuel (which, of course, was basketball) and I absolutely loved it. One of my best friends, Grace, and I coached together and we felt absolutely blessed to be a part of it. So, when Tyler said his favorite sport was soccer, we didn't want to pass it up. So, now Tyler is playing for Team Sparks, practicing every Thursday and playing a game every Saturday morning. During halftime, one of the pastors comes and does a short message for the kids. For our first game, we had Rob Signs, and he of course incorporated a magic trick with his message. And coincidentally, he chose Tyler to be his volunteer. I really love being a soccer mom! Here is some pics of Tyler for soccer:

This is Tyler just before we left for his first practice.

This is Tyler doing a goalie kick. (I guess that's what it's called. Not too sure) There are no goalies in this league, just an open net... Interesting

Aww.. he looks so happy! What a blessing you guys are to him! And, did you know I used to go to Immanuel Baptist? Yup. I think I am still a member there, actually! We have Upwards at my church too. Let me know if you ever do a game at Water of Life and I'll be there. Well... I suppose I could come to Immanuel too, come to think of it! Keep me posted!

Blessings,
Tara

Hi Terecita,
This is Shirley Weis, I volunteer at ChildHelp in your former cottage. I was just taking a break because of our daughter's wedding plans. I am so excited and thrilled that Tyler gets to live in a home with a loving Christian family. God is so good. I pray for the boys everyday. And Tyler was very special to me, because he treated me so nicely, always wanting to hold my hand and play with me. I used to think what family wouldn't want to adopt him, he is such a special kid. In fact, since our daughter was graduating and getting married, my husband and I wanted to become foster parents. That is why I volunteered at ChildHelp to see what we would be getting into. We had gone to a conference a few years ago called Fathering the Fatherless, sponsored by Calvary Chapel of Anaheim and it inspired us to do this service for our Lord.
Our daughter got married on 9/7/08 and left on 9/8/08 for Nebraska. I was looking on the internet under Koinonia Foster Homes and accidently came across your blog site. What drew me to it was the name Heppenstal. I know how Dr. Heppenstal has adopted all these children and our daughter, Kami, had also met about 3 of them. One of the sons goes to APU where she graduated from. And I started reading and much to my surprise, I saw your picture and Tyler's pictures. I love how you tell all about his finding out, his first day home, his first day of school and most of all his baptism. It brought tears to my eyes.
Please give Tyler a hug, and tell him how much I will miss seeing him and what a great kid he is. ChildHelp is not going to be the same without you. You were a wonderful team leader. I plan to go back to volunteering this Saturday.
I would love to chat with you about the whole process of going through the foster parent licensing procedure. If you want you can call me at 951-231-7037.

God Bless You all,
Shirley
